We have some great news about Gibson’s fight against wage theft.

As some of you know, Gibson’s former boss bought the Lyrik Cafe a couple of months ago. He verbally disrespected the workers, and within a few weeks, he had replaced the entire staff. To make matters worse he called Gibson a “dirty hippie” and fired her via a text message, but not before he made illegal deductions from her final paycheck.

When Gibson told her boss that this was wage theft, he challenged her to do something about it. That’s when she heard about the Wage Theft Action Network and within a week, she gathered dozens of supporters to confront the boss directly and demand her wages back.

The once brash and overconfident boss who picked on workers sheepishly made a deposit into Gibson’s account for the amount that he had illegally deducted.

This is a big victory for Gibson and for the movement to combat wage theft in our community. For Gibson, it was never about the money, and with the support of her community, she was able to teach her boss a lesson about treating workers with respect.
